Prayer is the most elusive and misunderstood practice of religious belief. Understanding prayer has always been the desire of my heart. In my small way, I will try to define what prayer is and how it became beneficial to me on my journey seeking to know the will of God for my life.
Prayer is giving God the legal right and permission to interfere in a situation.
It is exercising our legal authority to invoke God’s help in a time of great need.
Prayer is acknowledging our incapacity to one who can challenge what we are facing.
This is different from wishing, for to wish is praying to oneself and to the matter in question.
Some years ago I embarked on a journey to discover this ” prayer” thing. On such journey it was possible to get confused, discouraged and even question everything I believed, but when I got some answers I was encouraged to keep seeking.
I am certain that on a similar journey were those of the Old Testament like the Psalmist in chapter 42 ” As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for you…” Psalm 42:1-2. With such desire it is impossible to just wish for satisfaction. Only prayer can bring satisfaction to a yearning heart.
It is my prayer that we get closer to God and like His disciples we can pray to Him “Lord Jesus teacher us to pray, cause us to desire to know you more Amen.
